4 Healthy Summer Cocktails

Yesterday, June 20th officially marked the first day of summer. It's no doubt that along with beach days and summer lovin', the season also brings an overindulgence in cocktails. Unfortunately, many are filled with added sugar and calories, from fruity martinis to summer ales, not exactly the go-to recipe for bikini season. But no worries; fortunately these 4 summer cocktails can help keep you feeling fresh and fit during the next few months.
1. Infused Water: Infused water is extra satisfying during these sultry summer afternoons. Fill up a pitcher with water and ice, then add in fresh citrus fruit like lemon, lime or grapefruit wedges. You can also add in cucumber slices, fresh mint or basil for an extra kick! One of my favorite combinations is the juice of 1/2 grapefruit + 1/2 lemon + water + ice. Add in fresh mint for an additional cooling effect.
2. Mango Lemonade Spritzer: Fill a glass 3/4 full with unflavored chilled soda water, and then fill the rest with an all natural, organic juice like Santa Cruz. I love their Mango Lemonade as its just sweet enough and you don't need too much of it for maximum flavor. If you're making an alcoholic beverage, replace the soda water with sparkling white wine or champagne. Garnish with fresh fruit like strawberries, melon or berries.
3. Zesty Living Margarita: I love margaritas just as much as the next girl, but it's shocking how many calories, added sugars (like high fructose corn syrup!) or even worse artificial sweeteners they contain. Be especially careful for the pre-made margarita mixes, which can pack on just as many calories and sugars than your Fourth of July cake! I like to keep my margaritas simple by shaking (in mixer) 1 shot of clear tequila de agave + ice + soda water + juice of 1/2 lime. Top it off with a splash of all natural juice, like blood orange, pineapple or grapefruit. Adjust to your personal taste, by adding in Triple Sec, Grand Marnier, etc.
4. Coconut Water: Coconut water is the ultimate summer hydrator, as it's low in calories and packed with electrolytes, potassium and other nutrients. I especially like Vita Coco and ZICO, although there are many great brands out there today! Just be certain to read the label to be sure you're purchasing an all natural variety. Bonus Tip: Coconut water also makes for the perfect mixer when hosting a summer party!
